the holistic voice
Kelly Carey is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (Kelly Miller, M.S. CCC-SLP), voice technique instructor, and singer-actress from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her professional career includes credits in musical theater, concert vocalist, and headlining her own show for Norwegian and Celebrity cruise lines, and more! Favorite roles include: Into the Woods (Witch) and Next To Normal (Diana), Tick, Tick…BOOM! (Susan/Karessa) and Legally Blonde the Musical (Paulette). Kelly has been a singing technique instructor for 18 years in her private studio, and serves as adjunct voice faculty at Western Michigan University in the Musical Theater Dept. since 2022. Currently, she is a Speech-Language Pathologist & Voice Therapist at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. (www.maryfreebed.com - request Kelly MILLER)
As a singing voice instructor, Kelly is a master technician! Her approach to voice is holistic: educating the student in vocal health and technique, while honoring each individual’s unique quality. Studying the voice from an anatomical perspective, Kelly is known for making the abstract ideas of vocal production and musicality more tangible for the student as well as diagnosing poor voice habits that can impede functionality, production, and sound quality. Her unique training as a speech-language pathologist allows her to approach voice pedagogy from the physiological aspect. In addition to polishing the voice, Kelly focuses attention on the individual needs of each student, whether it is performance aspects, vocal endurance, or simply getting the courage to sing in front of others. She provides training for all types of professional voice users (teachers, lawyers, public speakers, etc…) in the areas of voice health, production, longevity, and strength.
